Rangers kit man Jimmy Bell died unexpectedly at the age of 57. Bell has been an important member of the Ibrox backroom staff since joining the club soon before the arrival of Graeme Souness in 1986.
According to the Sun, he began as a bus driver for the club before progressing to the kitman position and working under ELEVEN Rangers managers.
On his arrival, current manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst greeted him cordially since he recognized him from his playing days.
The fans’ favorite wielded power behind the scenes at the Ibrox club right up until Sunday’s Old Firm encounter.
“Rangers Football Club is now heartbroken to announce the loss of our much-loved, famous kit man, Jimmy Bell,” said a statement from the club.
Rangers have stated that Bell would be “sorely missed by everyone” at the club.
“As a club, we are profoundly heartbroken to learn of the passing of our colleague and, more significantly, our close friend, Jimmy Bell,” Rangers chairman Douglas Park said.
“Jimmy devoted his entire life to Rangers Football Club.” He served under managers ranging from Graeme Souness to Giovanni and witnessed some of the best days in our 150-year existence.”
“Of course, he was present during some of the lowest periods and shown unselfish commitment regardless of the task at hand.”
“Jimmy’s work ethic was unrivaled,” the post continues. He put in numerous hours of practice and game preparation for each training session and game.
He loved working for his boyhood club since no assignment was too large or too minor for him. Though he is not yet listed on Wikipedia, he has made a huge contribution to the club and the team members.
Rangers have asked that everyone respect the Bell family’s privacy at this terrible time, and funeral arrangements will be informed in due course.
